How far do you have to go?

Welcome to Open Threads, wherein we’ll pass the mic to readers to speak up about topics of interest, distress, horror, and more. Have something you want discussed? Let us know.

Spring is finally here and now all we can think about is getting away from it all and heading Up North. But what does that even mean?

Depending on who you talk to, “Up North” could mean anywhere north of the metro area. Perhaps some of the quaint towns in the thumb would count. Maybe you have to get as far as Cadillac to truly be Up North. But of course, some will say you’re not Up North unless you’re in the actual Upper Peninsula.

Come on.

In our Up North small towns map, Port Austin in the thumb and Ludington on Lake Michigan are our two southernmost points.

For this week’s open thread, we’re thinking about vacation, sitting back, and wondering where Up North starts for you. Share your thoughts in the comments.
