Welcome to this week’s installment of Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent for a certain dollar amount in various Detroit neighborhoods. This week we’re looking at rentals within $100 of today’s price: $1,000.
First up is a two-bedroom, one bath apartment across from the University of Detroit Mercy. This building has been remodeled, and the unit has a new kitchen and a new bathroom. Building upgrades include a renovation of the common area and laundry room, plus a new security system. It’s close to many shops and restaurants on Livernois. Pets are welcome and utilities and wifi are included. It rents right on budget at $1,100.
On the east side in Islandview is this newly renovated two-bedroom, one-bath flat. This apartment has hardwood floors, character, a new kitchen, laundry in-unit, and a balcony. Pets are negotiable here. It’s located close to Mack, in between West Village and Eastern Market. This one comes in at the top of our budget at $1,200 per month.
If you’re a fan of Slows BBQ, this apartment sits right above the famed restaurant. This little apartment has one bedroom, one bathroom, and plenty of exposed brick. Pets are allowed here and water is included in the $1,000 per month rent. It’s close to all the shops and restaurants in Corktown and Southwest Detroit, and you can keep an eye on the train station from here.
And further into Southwest Detroit is this newly renovated apartment with two bedrooms and one bath. Inside, find a small kitchen, hardwood floors, an updated bathroom, new windows, and new appliances. Cats and small dogs are welcome. Rent is $1,150 per month, plus gas and electric.
