One more part of Olympia’s arena district will soon take shape. We now have more details on the long-rumored Medical Center next to the Little Caesars Arena. The five-story, 127,000-square-foot, $65 million sports medicine institute is a partnership between Olympia and Detroit Medical Center and will break ground next year.
This is part of the phased development announced recently by Olympia, including a large shift from residential to office space.
The DMC Sports Medicine Institute will be for professional, collegiate, and amateur athletes and include features like a golf simulator, a 3-point basketball court, a 40-yard track, plus rehab services such as a mobile MRI and a rehab pool. The institute will take up about 50,000 square feet of space, with an additional 60,000 square feet open for office or medical tenants. There will also be room for first floor retail.
DMC is the official healthcare provider for both the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers. The Sports Medicine Institute will stand in between the Little Caesars Arena and the soon-to-open Mike Ilitch School of Business along Woodward Avenue.
