We’re all about family-friendly activities in and around Detroit. Add this one to the list. The Detroit Kite Festival is coming back to Belle Isle July 15.
We visited last year during the inaugural Detroit Kite Festival, although Belle Isle has been home to many kite events in the past.
“We are so excited to bring back the Detroit Kite Festival after a wildly successful first time,” says Margo Dalal, Director. “Kites are a platform to bring Detroiters together, celebrate history and culture, and to engage with others. We are grateful to have such a supportive community and willing partners to make this the collaborative festival that it is.”
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., kids of all ages can join in on the fun. Bring your own kite to fly; kites will also be available to buy or rent on the island. The Detroit Institute of Arts Education Studio will host a kite-making tent. A Will it Fly? tent allows visitors to play around and invent new toys. The Windjammers Kite Team will perform synchronized kite flying—yes, synchronized kite flying. And the Michigan Philharmonic will provide some sweet sounds to accompany the event.
Sounds like a lovely day.
