Welcome to this week’s Curbed Comparisons, where we look at homes for sale in different neighborhoods around Detroit. Is one man’s castle another man’s condo? Today, we’re heading just north of 8 Mile and looking at houses in Detroit and Ferndale within $10,000 of our budget: $215,000.

4670 18th Street: $219,000

Our first house in this price range is located in Detroit’s Core City neighborhood. It’s 2,200 square feet with four bedrooms, two baths, a new kitchen with an odd layout, high ceilings, new bathroom fixtures, and a fenced yard. The 1905 house is close to Warren and Grand River, near the True North Quonset Huts, and close to Woodbridge and North Corktown. This would be the most expensive house in the area recently.

2225 Lothrop Street: $219,900

This large house sits in the LaSalle Gardens neighborhood, near the Motown Museum and the Henry Ford Hospital. It comes in at 2,622 square feet, with four bedrooms, three updated baths, exposed brick, multiple decorative fireplaces, a new modern kitchen, a big front porch and a second-floor balcony.

300 West Riverfront Drive, Unit 2H: $209,900

If living closer to downtown amenities is appealing, this 713-square-foot, one-bedroom, second floor condo is available at the Riverfront Towers. This unit has a small but updated kitchen and river views. HOA fees run $346 per month, and the community has tennis courts, a fitness center, a swimming pool, and outdoor access along the river.

275 Hazelhurst Street, Ferndale: $215,000

This cute little bungalow sits between 8 and 9 Mile, just off of Woodward in Ferndale. It has three bedrooms, one bath, a new kitchen with a lot of storage, new flooring, and an open dining/living space. It’s located on a corner lot not too far from the shops and restaurants in downtown Ferndale.

1576 West Saratoga Street, Ferndale: $212,000

Why not have your house match the flowers out front? This lilac house in Ferndale is located off Nine Mile, a few blocks from the downtown area. The listing says it has an updated kitchen, but alas, no photos. It also has three bedrooms, one-and-a-half baths, a partially-finished basement, and a fenced yard.
