Welcome to Friday Open Threads, wherein we’ll pass the mic to readers to speak up about topics of interest, distress, horror, and more. Have something you want discussed? Let us know. This week’s topic: where do you relax outside in Detroit?
We finally got a break in the heat and can enjoy a nice, sunny day in the area. In the next month, we’ll be looking at places where Detroiters can relax outside, have picnics, explore public art, and play in general. So today we’d like to know which parks you love the most.
Detroit has A LOT of parks, and the city has increased its efforts lately in making the parks more appealing to visitors. We’ve also seen extra thought go into the design of certain parks like Capitol Park and the West Riverfront. And later this month, Open Streets is coming to the city’s largest park—Rouge Park.
Belle Isle is the obvious choice for recreation in the city, but we know people spend time at parks far and wide. Do you like the new programming at Beacon Park? Do you take visitors to the “beach” at Campus Martius? Do you like the wide open expanses and history of Palmer Park? Is there a park in your neighborhood that you frequent? Where do you like to hold family picnics? Is there a park you wish would get some extra attention from residents?
Let us know what you think in the comments below.
