Detroit homes: What $145K buys right now

New, 2 comments

From Rosedale Park to East English Village

Welcome to this week’s Curbed Comparisons, where we look at homes for sale in different neighborhoods around Detroit. Is one man’s castle another man’s condo? Today, we’re looking at houses within $10,000 of our budget: $145,000.

14527 Rosemont, $135,000

First up is this three-bedroom flip in Rosedale Park. While some of the interior choices are questionable, this house has great curb appeal and a nice deck in the back. It also has a fireplace surrounded by built-ins in the living room, modern fixtures and tiling, and hardwood floors. It’s located near the Southfield Freeway and Grand River, and it’s listing at the low end of our budget.

16887 Lawton: $139,000

This five-bedroom home in Martin Park has a fantastic basement bar, as well as a beautiful fireplace in the living room. Also find shiny hardwood floors, a new kitchen, a garage, and some original tiling in the bathrooms. It’s close to the developments at 7 Mile and Livernois, as well as the University of Detroit Mercy.

17142 San Juan: $139,000

Here’s a recently renovated four-bedroom home in Bagley. This house has an unusual fireplace, a new kitchen, carpeting in the bedrooms, and room for storage in the basement. It’s also close to the developments and restaurants at 7 Mile and Livernois.

8200 East Jefferson, Unit 704: $149,900

If condo living is more your speed, this two-bedroom, two-bath unit is available at Shoreline East. It has an updated kitchen, a lot of carpeting, and in-unit laundry. It’s located across from Belle Isle, near West Village and right in between downtown and Grosse Pointe. This condo, along with its $619 per month HOA fee, is coming in at the higher end of our budget.

5042 Grayton Street: $140,000

And in East English Village—the Curbed Cup Neighborhood of the Year x2—this revamped brick house falls into our price range. We’d like to see that brick cleaned up on the front, but the three-bedroom house has a decorative fireplace with built-ins, a new kitchen, and nice tiling in the bathrooms. It’s located on the far east side of Detroit, close to Grosse Pointe.
