Detroit home comparisons: What $330K buys right now

Townhouse? Condo? Historic home?

Welcome to this week’s Curbed Comparisons, where we look at homes for sale in different neighborhoods around Detroit. Is one man’s castle another man’s condo? Today, we’re looking at houses within $10,000 of our budget: $330,000.

8129 Saint Paul: $325,000

We’ll start in West Village with this spacious four-bedroom townhouse. It has a living room fireplace with built-ins, French doors, hardwood floors, and two bedrooms each on the second and third floors. It’s right in the middle of the historic neighborhood, near restaurants, Belle Isle, and upcoming developments.

1944 Edison: $329,000

This Arts and Crafts home in Boston-Edison has so much of what we love about these historic homes: wood floors, fireplaces, a butler’s pantry and breakfast nook, built-ins, and great curb appeal. The house has seven bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths, and it hasn’t been overly modernized.

4221 Cass Avenue: $339,900

If you’re looking for a walkable, convenient location instead of space, this one-bedroom loft is available at the Stuberstone Building. Here you’ll get high ceilings, big windows, and an open kitchen/living space layout. It’s right in the middle of Midtown, close to the Qline, Wayne State, and downtown.

19736 Shrewsbury: $330,000

Here’s a four-bedroom Tudor in Sherwood Forest that looks like it hasn’t been touched in decades. Inside, find a lot of original tiling—including the kitchen, a library, a formal dining room, a hot tub, and a retro basement bar. It sits on a corner lot—with a two-car garage—near shops on Livernois and Ferndale.

18645 Fairfield Street: $325,000

This University District home has been maintained by the same family for decades. It has four bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, a very retro kitchen, a den, a screened-in porch, and more living space in the basement. It could use some updating, but it’s a lovely old home in a great neighborhood, close to Livernois and Ferndale.
