Last August, redevelopment of the long-vacant Metropolitan Building officially started in downtown Detroit. This is another building that many feared would face the wrecking ball. By the end of this year, it’s expected to reopen as the Element Detroit Hotel.
Here’s a peek at what the extended-stay hotel rooms will look like, complete with a sitting area, desk, and some kitchen necessities.
When finished, the hotel will have 110 one- and two-bedroom hotel rooms, 2,000 square feet of meeting space on the second-floor mezzanine, approximately 7,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and lower level, and a rooftop bar and patio.
The development is led by the Means Group and the Roxbury Group, who redeveloped the David Whitney Building into the Aloft Hotel.
The Element Detroit Hotel is in the middle of what’s becoming a new hotel district in Detroit. The Siren Hotel opened earlier this year in the old Wurlitzer Building around the corner from the Metropolitan. Across the street, the massive Shinola Hotel is expected to open this winter.
We’re looking forward to seeing the interior and exterior details of this incredible building. The Neo-Gothic 14-story building opened in 1925, and was vacant for 38 years before redevelopment started.
