We often debate about renovations in old Detroit homes; sometimes all the character is lost, or perhaps the house doesn’t have quite enough modern amenities. This lovely new listing in the University District checks off many old and new details. It’s full of original, colorful tiling, it has an updated kitchen, and it has AC. It’s coming in at $379,900.

The listing states that it was built by a fire chief with steel and cement beams, making it almost fireproof. Inside, we find colorful leaded glass; tile accents in the foyer, fireplace, and bathrooms; plaster detailing; a formal dining room; an attractive winding staircase; four bedrooms; and a finished basement. The kitchen has been updated with neutral finishes, and many of the rooms have that soft grey paint we see so often. The house also has an attached two-car garage and a backyard. It’s listed through Robert Sprader at Keller Williams.
