In September this year, we profiled a hardworking couple doing designer renovations of modest Detroit homes, primarily between 7 and 8 Mile roads west of Livernois Avenue. Evan Thomas and Keith Bynum specialize in buying small homes on the cheap, doing all the carpentry and interior design themselves, and keeping the sale price under $100,000.
You can see some more of their handiwork here and here.
That’s once again the case with this 1,144-square-foot home on Monica Street that’s listed for $99,900.
The little cottage has many of the same features of their signature style: bright-painted siding accented with wood and nice landscaping. This time, they’ve added a pergola over the porch.
Inside the three-bedroom home, you’ll find some neat flourishes, like the unpainted beadboard ceiling in both the living and dining rooms. The completely new kitchen has white concrete countertops and a marble backsplash.
And then of course there are the furnishings, which have a lot of vintage pieces and wall art (Thomas and Bynum own a furniture store in Ferndale, Nine Furniture and Design, that they use to outfit the homes). We don’t normally comment on the staging, but all the furnishing can be bought with the sale of the house for an additional $3,500.
20109 Monica Street is listed with Ashley Mann of Hall and Hunter Realtors for $99,900.
