It’s always special when a home in Harbor Island goes up for sale. We see about one per year hit the market on this long block in the canal district, sometimes called the “Venice of Detroit.”

This 2,070-square-foot home is asking $489,000.

Homes in this neighborhood are most desirable for their river access. Built in the 1950s, this three-bedroom residence comes with a large boathouse and slip that connects to the canals leading to the Detroit River. The backyard, deck, and dock provide ample space for comfortable enjoyment of your little slice of water.

Though this place will primarily attract boaters, the interior is pleasant and move-in ready. There’s a lot of wood on the trim, fireplace mantel, doors, and staircases. The modern, open kitchen has stone countertops and a passthrough to the dining area. The finished third floor is a real treat: It’s got access to a balcony, exposed wood framing, and even a wood-paneled jacuzzi.

14414 Harbor Island is listed with Jason Hill, Abby Joz, and Michele Martin of Historic Realty Detroit for $489,000.

A large empty room with white walls, carpeted floors, a single window, and a ceiling fan.

A wood jacuzzi with a cover over it. There’s wood trim around the windows and narrow staircase, as well as several wood beams on the ceiling.
