Since opening in 2005, Canine To Five has seen nothing but growth. The dog daycare business founded by Liz Blondy has steadily increased its clientele and services over the years, and opened a second, 22,000-square-foot location in Ferndale in 2015.

Now, it’s flagship location at Cass and Mack avenues just completed a $1.3 million expansion, adding 4,000 square feet of floor space and bringing its total capacity to 175 dogs per day.

The design was done by local architectural firm D MET.

“As a small business owner, it is really important to me to listen to my customers,” said Blondy in a press release. “We have grown with their needs over the past 14 years.”

3,000 square feet of the new space will be leased to tenants—prime commercial space in a city with a shortage of it. Canine To Five is adjacent to craft beer store 8 Degrees Plato and down the street from Little Caesars Arena and a number of other businesses.

In addition to daycare services, Canine To Five offers dog grooming, training, and boarding. The business also hosts weekly dog walks and a monthly dog-friendly drink and hangout that benefits a local animal support organization.

The official opening of the expanded space takes place on Monday, March 25 at 10 a.m. Public tours are available on Tuesday, March 26 and Thursday, March 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, March 30 from 10 a.m. to noon.
