Welcome to this week’s installment of Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent for a certain dollar amount in various Detroit neighborhoods. This week we’re looking at rentals at or around $1,600.
Milwaukee Junction
Behold, the latest rehab from Alex Pereira, the residential developer responsible for several eye-catching homes in Woodbridge, including the “Up” and “Lorax” houses. This one, too, has a striking exterior, along with a flowery mural that reads “Dreamers Change the World.” The inside of this two-bedroom, 925-square-foot unit is fully redone, and includes a private deck that faces New Center. 89 Edsel Edsel Ford Freeway is renting for $1,600 a month.

Core City
This is another fully renovated home in a centrally located neighborhood, Core City, which hasn’t seen nearly as much of these kinds of renos as nearby Woodbridge and Corktown. It’s 2,200 square feet, and has four bedrooms and a nice-sized yard. Rent it with three of your friends and you’ve got nice deal. 4670 18th Street is renting for $1,600 a month. (It’s also on sale for $175,000.)

East Riverfront
River Place Apartments has 301 units spread over three buildings, but most of the two-bedroom floorplans go for $1,600 a month. Originally a Parke-Davis pharmaceutical plant and later a Stroh’s Brewery, these apartment buildings are a short walk to the riverfront, Atwater Brewery (and other bars and restaurants), and even Belle Isle.

Lafayette Park
Constructed in 2017, the DuCharme Place was one of the first new-build projects in this era of Detroit development. On site, there’s a 24-hour fitness center, swimming pool and hot tub, second-level community green space, and more. Each apartment comes with a washer and dryer. There’s a number of different floorplans, but many of the one-bedroom units rent for between $1,475 and $1,650 per month.
