Mini-chateau in Palmer Woods needs work, asks $359,900

This one-of-a kind French colonial estate has lots of potential

Photos by Stylish Detroit

Palmer Woods contains many of the most unique houses in the city. This chateau-inspired home is no exception.

The French colonial looks much larger than its 2,796 square feet due to its elongated shape and the way it’s set back from the road, covered by landscaping. The exterior is made of beautiful beige brick and curved green roof tiles.

Inside, there’s many subtle but wonderful features, our favorite being the Flint Faience tiles featured in several of the rooms. In total, there are three bedrooms, five bathrooms, a detached guest suite, and three-car garage.

But what’s also clear is that the place will require additional investment. The floors need to be refinished, the walls repainted, and the kitchen redone. Also, many ceilings and walls show signs of water damage. Hopefully it won’t require a total gutting of the structure.

If not, this is quite an opportunity to bring back a historic home. 1701 Strathcona Drive is listed for $359,900.

(We also appreciate that its address is the same as the year Detroit was settled.)
