The Springfield Loft unit offers great views of Midtown on its green patio—but it’ll cost you

Want to live in a former mortuary? That may be a morbid way to begin, but the Springfield Lofts, where this loft is located, was formerly home to the Springfield Metallic Casket Company and then Wayne State University’s Mortuary Science.

But we think that’s more cool history than deterrent. Besides, judging from the details on the stone facade, these morticians had pretty good taste.

The loft itself is a sizable 1,762-square-feet with two bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, and a two-car garage spread across two floors. It’s got the look and feel of a modern loft, complete with exposed brick walls and concrete ceilings, as well as an open floor plan. The real kicker is the private patio with nice views of Midtown.

But the price is definitely steep. At just under $370 per square foot, it’s at the upper end of what’s for sale in the city.

627 West Alexandrine #6 is listed through Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices The Loft Warehouse for $649,000.
