What $140K buys in Detroit right now

See what you can get in Grandmont-Rosedale, Bagley, and the greater North End

Welcome to this week’s Curbed Comparisons, where we look at homes for sale in different neighborhoods around Detroit. Today, we’re looking at houses within $5,000 of our budget: $140,000.

Keller Williams
Grandmont Subdivision

This three-bedroom, 1,452-square-foot home in Grandmont is listing for $139,900. It’s got a whimsical exterior that the realtor describes as a “Tudor-style craftsman bungalow.” Inside, there’s a tile landing and hardwood flors. The unique master bedroom has wood everywhere: on the vaulted ceiling, wood-paneled walls, and hardwood floors. It’s located in a solid neighborhood and looks to be in great shape.

Daniel Erickson, Sotheby’s International Realty
East Jefferson Riverfront

A two-bedroom, 1,250-square-foot condo in a co-op is selling for $140,000. The move-in ready unit has views of the Detroit River from the master bedroom and a freshly-renovated kitchen with granite countertops. There are association fees, but you do get other amenities on site, like a pool, fitness center, parking, security, and most of your utilities.

The Monzo Group
Greater North End

A four-bedroom brick colonial north of Boston Edison is listing for $139,900. The 1,758-square-foot home, built in 1922, has great bones but could use some love—the floors in particular need to be refinished (though the crown molding looks good). The realtor says there’s a new furnace and windows, and the bathrooms have been restored to their original look.

Alexander Real Estate
Grandmont-Rosedale

A three-bedroom, 1,429-square-foot home in Grandmont-Rosedale is listing for $139,000. The colonial looks like it was recently updated, including refinished floors, new carpet, kitchen backsplash, and more. For sure the most impressive thing is the backyard deck built around a tree. Overall, a great price for a move-in ready home.

Rocket Homes
Bagley

A home in arguably the hottest housing market in the city, Bagley, is listing for $143,900. This three-bedroom, 1,540-square-foot house has an eye-catching brick exterior with some neat diamond detailing. The home has been completed renovated with new granite kitchen countertops, a furnace, roof, and even brick fireplace. If it’s any added incentive, the buyer will also get a $1,500 gift card to Home Depot.
