Lots of changes are coming to Brush Park in the very near future, much of it centered around the massive City Modern development bringing hundreds of apartments and single-family units to the area.
But the near-downtown neighborhood still has dozens of historic homes, perhaps none more so than the Emanuel Schloss House. Built in 1872, it was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1988.
The 9,800-square-foot Second Empire mansion has been operating as a bed and breakfast, the Winder Street Inn, since its renovation in 2006. If you ever had a dream of running a stately B&B in a nine-room house—whose rates currently go from $269-$399 per night—now’s your chance, because it’s for sale.
There’s too many details about the mansion to mention here, like gorgeous fireplaces, detailed plaster and moldings, hardwood floors, chandeliers, and dormer windows. We especially like the “Penthouse Loft,” reminiscent of a speakeasy with its pool table and wet bar. It also comes with 10 parking spaces and potentially a liquor license.
As you’d expect, owning this bed and breakfast, with its unparalleled location and history, is pricey.
234 Winder Street is listed through Alexander Real Estate Detroit for $3,999,999. It’s also available for lease for $17,500.
