Corktown is about to get a whole lot denser. On the east side of Trumbull Avenue, Elton Park will add retail and over 400 units of multi-family housing.
West of Trumbull, on the former side of the old Tiger Stadium, will be The Corner, developed by Larson Realty Group. When complete, it will add 111 apartment units and 34 townhomes.
Called The Towns @ The Corner, the two-story townhomes will be 1,588 square feet and have two bedrooms, a two-car detached garage, modern appliances and fixtures, granite countertops, a first-floor mudroom, and more. Some come with a rooftop deck.
They’re also customizable: A 2,500-square-foot design studio allows buyers to chose “everything down to door handle,” says Dominic Alessi, a sales manager at Robertson Brothers Homes.
Prices start at $408,490, but can exceed $500,000 depending on unit location and finishes.
The one potential caveat is that the backyard is a baseball field. Operated by the Detroit Police Athletic League, the park will host local high school and college baseball games.
While that kind of atmosphere may not be for everyone, units at the Corner have been incredibly popular. According to Alessi, 20 have already been sold. Many of those will be done by the end of summer. The rest have a winter to summer 2020 completion date.
The model room was just completed as well, and walk-ins are available Saturday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
And developer Eric Larson told the Detroit Free Press that 25 percent of the apartment units have pre-leased. Those start at $1,000 for one-bedroom units and $2,350 for two-bedroom units, but 20 percent will be reserved for those who make 80 percent or less of the area median income.
In addition to ground-floor retail, the Build Institute will also be a tenant.
