Welcome to this week’s installment of Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent for a certain dollar amount in various Detroit neighborhoods. This week we’re looking at rentals at or around $1,000.
Corktown
An 800-square-foot apartment in a brick building on Wabash Street is renting for $950 per month. The one-bedroom, one-bathroom residence has some hardwood floors and wood trim that seem to be in great shape. There’s a living room and little dining nook next to the kitchen, though it does seem a little cramped. Tenants pay cooking gas and electricity. The building itself has some nice stone accents on the exterior and is just a few blocks away from Michigan Central Station.
Jefferson-Chalmers
A 1,071-square-foot unit in a home on Alter Road is renting for $1,100 per month. This unique duplex runs along Fox Creek and is only a few blocks from AB Ford Park and the Detroit River. The two-bedroom unit has been recently renovated and has a new kitchen, refinished hardwood floors, updated bath, and more. There’s also a private basement, recreation room, one-car garage. Tenant pays for all utilities.
West Village
A 1,200-square-foot unit in a duplex on Saint Paul Street is renting for $1,100 per month. The recently renovated two-bedroom residence comes with refinished hardwood floors and brand new kitchen appliances. It also has an open floor plan and a passthrough between the kitchen and dining room. The home is just a block away from the little commercial district on Agnes Street. Tenant pays heat and electricity; water, trash, and snow removal are included.
Piety Hill
A spacious 2,328-square-foot unit in a duplex on Clairmount Street is renting for $1,000 per month. Another home that got a top-to-bottom renovation, this three-bedroom unit now comes with refinished hardwood floors, a new kitchen, new porch and deck, fresh coats of paint, and more. Landlord is asking for first and last month rent, as well as one month security deposit.
Art Center
A 1,200-square-foot unit in (yet another) duplex on Hendrie Street is renting for $1,050 per month. The two-bedroom residence has some nice wood paneling, trim, and decorative elements on the entryway between the living and dining rooms—though they have been painted over. It also comes with a private second-story balcony. The home is situated nicely between New Center and the Detroit Institute of Arts.
