There was another indication last week that progress continues to take place at the City Modern development in Brush Park.

Bedrock Detroit, developer of the project’s multifamily buildings, has begun pre-leasing for The Flats at 2660 John R. When finished in April this year, it will be the second multifamily building to open at the 8.4-acre residential development that’s transforming the near downtown neighborhood.

2660 John R will have 35 apartments compromised of a variety of unit types and floor plans.

  • Studios: 494 to 553 square feet, renting for $1,400 per month
  • One bedroom: 556 to 835 square feet, renting for $1,610 to $1,835 per month
  • Two bedroom: 885 to 1,137 square feet, renting for $2,310 to $2,885 per month

The apartments’ sleek kitchens come with modern appliances, quartz countertops, a smooth-top electric range, and ceramic tile backsplash. There’s also floor-to-ceiling windows with blackout coverings in the bedrooms, in-unit washer/dryer, keyless access, and more. Community amenities include a third-floor public terrace, access to a fitness center at another multifamily building, and bicycle storage, to name a few.

In the living room, there’s white walls and hardwood floors. There’s a brown leather couch across from a flat screen TV hanging on a wall. There’s also a small glass coffee table on a rug and some potted plants.

The exterior of the building has some distinct structural setbacks and wood cladding around its tall windows. There will also be ground-floor retail. The architect for the building was Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects.

2660 John R is across the street from The Flats at 124 Alfred, which opened in April last year. Its 54 units are reserved as affordable housing for seniors.

In total, there will be six multifamily buildings at City Modern. Bedrock expects 2665 Brush and 440 Alfred to finish this summer.

Other elements of the mega-development include 116 for-sale townhomes and carriage houses, a north-south green alleyway called “the Mews,” and restoration of four historic mansions.
