Mapping homes for sale near Michigan Avenue

From downtown to Dearborn, here’s what you’ll find near M-12

View as Map

This week for our Curbed Comparisons, we’re looking at homes for sale or for rent along some of the major roads, or spokes, coming out of Detroit. Today we’re looking at homes for sale within a few blocks of Michigan Avenue, which, if one was so inclined, could be taken across the state of Michigan. But for this map, we’re going as far as Dearborn.

The properties range from an exclusive downtown condo to a renovated Victorian in Corktown to a rehab project in Southwest to a lovely single-family home with Ford family history. Price wise, we’re going from $35,000 all the way up to $1.8 million. Links to listings can be found under the photo and address.

This selection of properties located around Michigan Avenue certainly show how neighborhoods change quickly in Detroit. While all are located near a bus line, only a couple are near trains or rail, and the first and last are more walkable and bikable than the rest.

The Westin Book Cadillac Detroit

$669,900

It’s hard to tell what this three bedroom Book Cadillac condo looks like from the photos, but it’s offering 1,450 square feet of space in a centrally located, high end downtown building. The new owner certainly wouldn’t need a car. This is likely the most transit-friendly of all of our map points; it’s near the Rosa Parks Bus Station, a People Mover stop, and the QLINE. It’s also walkable to everything downtown and bikable to many neighborhoods.

2038 Wabash Street

$479,000

We love it when a great old Corktown house lists, but this one may be asking a bit too much. The outside is just perfect, with a big landscaped yard in the back. Inside, it’s been renovated with a more simple, modern look. Its listing price is about $100K over any other single-family house that’s sold in the neighborhood recently. It’s just a few streets up from Michigan Avenue, walking distance from shops and restaurants, and biking distance to Southwest Detroit and downtown.

2560 Michigan Avenue

$1,799,999

This knockout property listed last winter after offering itself up as a $10,000 a month rental. The main space has room for a car (and a garage door), a gallery space if you’re so inclined, and a commercial kitchen. Three other smaller units are included in this property. It’s located right on Michigan Avenue, with views of Michigan Central Station.

Bullock-Green Michelle & Chris Gerard

797 West Grand Boulevard

$149,000

Here’s one of those properties that could be so grand again, if the right owner were to find it. Currently, it’s divided into four separate units. The listing states that it could be a single family home again, but that might not make a lot of sense. It’s located on West Grand Boulevard, right near the 96 and 75 interchange.

7316 St John Street

$35,000

This duplex has likely seen better days, but it could be a good investment property for the right owner. It’s not the most walkable or transit-friendly on the list, but it’s a few blocks south of Michigan Avenue on the far west side of the city.

5002 Kenilworth Street

$359,900

Dearborn has some unusual architecture, and this four bedroom house might be a candidate here. It has giant windows, giant columns, a wide open living space, and marble in the bathrooms. It’s located a few blocks up from shops, restaurants, and the Arab American Museum, and it’s close to Schaefer Road and Ford Road.

830 S Brady Street

$429,900

This gorgeous Craftsman-style home was built by Henry Ford’s brother William in a different location and moved to its current location in 2001. The house has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, incredible woodwork, and a separate entrance to the basement suite. It’s also close to Fairlane, plus the Amtrak, Wolverine, and Greyhound station. It’s also close to trails that lead to Hines Drive.

22380 Abbey Lane

$229,500

This three bedroom townhouse is new construction, with basic finishes you’ll find in new townhouse construction. It’s located just a block away from downtown Dearborn, close to numerous shops, restaurants, the library, and bus stops.
